Aim
To provide information and understanding of post mortem examination particularly when a child dies, and help develop skills needed in responding sensitively to families' varied needs at this very difficult time
Learning outcomes
- to appreciate from the family's perspective the impact of considering issues in relation to post mortem examination
- to gain insight into the value of effective communication across disciplines and agencies
- to gain understanding of the implications of a coroner's post mortem
- to explore the gift aspect of organ and tissue donation
- to gain information relating to the Human Tissue Authority Regulatory Framework
- to explore and develop self-awareness in relation to loss and post mortem examination
- to gain information about the Child Bereavement Charity, other similar support organisations and resources available
Who should attend?
Suitable for staff whose work involves helping bereaved families around the time of death, whether on wards, in pathology or mortuary teams, or those working in a bereavement advisory capacity (including PALS)
