PLANT A SNOWDROP FOR A LOVED ONE AND HELP THE CHILD BEREAVEMENT CHARITY

The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC) for the first year ever is inviting families to take part in a Snowdrop Walk at Hardwick Park in Sedgefield on Sunday 24th February 2008.

The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC) is a unique national charity working to help grieving families when a child dies and when a child is bereaved. By listening to both children and parents, CBC leads the way in improving the care offered to such families both in the immediate crisis and the many months following a death. We help grieving families both directly through our information and support service, our online forum and our Buckinghamshire based groups and indirectly through training and supporting professionals who come into contact with those families. CBC has been organising Snowdrop Walks near the charity's dedicated centre in West Wycombe for the last eight years but this will be the first year there will be a second walk held in the North of the country.

The walk has been made possible thanks to the generous support of Julie and David Kilpatrick, bereaved parents who were supported by CBC. All are welcome to come and enjoy the park for an afternoon of remembrance for anyone who has experienced the death of someone close to them.

"Every year we are lucky enough to have lots of families taking part in the Snowdrop Walk and we very much hope that many people will once again come to enjoy the beauty of the park. Whether you are a child or young person who has been bereaved, or a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or godparent who has lost a young family member, all are welcome to come along." says Chief Executive of the charity, Ann Chalmers, "Every penny raised goes towards supporting our work which is improving the care offered to grieving families."

Admission to the snowdrop walks will be from noon until 3pm, with an opportunity for families to plant snowdrops in memory of loved ones and walk around the grounds. Tea and refreshments will be available in Hardwick Hall with 50% of proceeds going to CBC.

Individual snowdrops will be available for purchase on the day.

Entrance fee: £1.50 adult, £1.00 concessions and children over 3, Children under 3 free. Entrance fee includes a Child Bereavement Charity snowdrop pin badge..

Notes for Editors

  1. Described by the Heritage Lottery Fund as 'one of the most spectacular country parks in Britain' Hardwick is situated to the west of Sedgefield. Miraculously, Hardwick has survived as an unaltered landscape garden of the 1750s. It is comparable to the famous gardens of Stourhead and Stowe and is listed by English Heritage as a Grade II Site of Special Historic Interest. It is surrounded by over ten different species of beautiful and very impressive trees.
  2. If you would like to arrange a photo opportunity with a family at Hardwick Park please contact Sarah Broom at CBC on 01494 479 755.
