The specific area of child bereavement is one that many counsellors tell us they feel ill-equipped to deal with.
In working with clients who have experienced the death of a child, or who are having to manage life in a family where both they and their children are grieving, counsellors can be supported by underpinning their skills with some knowledge of such aspects as:
- children's understanding of death
- children's responses to loss and grief
- the potentially differing grief responses of parents which can lead to misunderstandings and difficulties in their relationship when their child has died.
The Charity is also able to offer tailor-made training [0] specific to the needs of counsellors, encompassing theoretical and research material, and regularly inputs on training courses around the country for branches of Cruse Bereavement Care.
CBC also produces a range of resources [0] that counsellors may find helpful in their work with clients, such as a DVD for children, a memory box, workbooks for both adults and children with life-limiting conditions, and for children whose baby brother or sister has died.
