One way in which some families choose to say goodbye to their baby or child who has died is to have their baby or child at home for a time before the funeral. In most circumstances this should be possible, even where a post mortem examination has been performed.
Where a child has died in hospital and parents wish to take their child home themselves, they should be given a form by staff which confirms their child's body has been released to them.
Alternatively, parents can ask for help with this from their funeral director, who can arrange for the baby or child to be brought home, perhaps the night before the funeral.
