This conference aims to increase awareness and understanding across professions, to address issues around conflict, communicating with the family and ways to support staff in order to provide the best family-centred care
The day will provide an opportunity for networking, sharing ideas and learning from bereaved parents and each other
The Programme will include:
• A parents’ perspective of palliative care on a neonatal unit and at a children’s
hospice
• A parents’ perspective of withholding and withdrawal of treatment
• Family support in neonatal care
Clinical Perspectives include:
• The development of National Guidance for Professionals
• The challenges of perinatal palliative care
• Withholding and withdrawal of intensive support and ethical considerations
• Conflict resolution and uncertainty issues
Other topics will include:
• The hospice perspective
• Supporting siblings
• Support from the paediatric palliative care team at Great Ormond Street Hospital
• Voluntary sector initiatives, including BLISS, ACT and Child Bereavement Charity
