A selective, comprehensive, modular course consisting of 5 weekend units, over seven months.
The Child Bereavement Charity is working in partnership with Bucks New University to deliver this innovative and practical course.
On successful completion students will gain 60 credits at Level 6 Completers of the course will normally be eligible to apply for progression to BA (Hons) Practice Development.
Aim
To enable participants to develop a range of techniques to assist them in working effectively with bereaved children and young people according to each child or young person's individual needs.
This course will not aim to equip trainees to counsel children/young people but rather to support them in the context of their family and their individual/personal experience of bereavement.
The course delivery allows participants to explore each theme in depth using a variety of methods: group work; facilitated workshops; presentations; role play; lectures; seminars.
Selection
Students will be expected to successfully complete a short written piece of work and may be called for interview.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of all units, the students will be able to:
- Critically assess models of child development and their application in context of bereavement
- Demonstrate the ability to reflect critically on working safely and creatively
- with bereaved children and young people
- Reflect upon and evaluate the significance of the family and cultural
- context of supporting bereaved children and young people
- Articulate the significance of endings in relation to working with bereaved
- children and young people
- Demonstrate the ability to reflect critically on their own practice and that of
- others in working with bereaved children and young people
Full access is available to participants of the university's support services and resources. The course will be held at the University High Wycombe Campus.
Course Requirements
- Students will be required to be in a supportive working relationship with
children/young people from unit 4 onwards of the course. The opportunity
to bring practice experience into the training environment enriches the
learning experience for the whole group
- Students must be able to attend all course dates
Who Should Attend?
Open to anyone who works with or wishes to deepen their understanding of the needs of bereaved children and young people.
