It’s a startling statistic that every year in the UK, around 6000 families are bereaved by suicide. And research shows that families who experience the death of a loved one by suicide are themselves, as a consequence, more vulnerable to an increased risk of suicide and mental health issues.
As Ann Chalmers, Chief Executive of The Child Bereavement Charity explains, “We are learning more about the potential negative impact of suicide bereavement on children, but until now there has been very little by way of specific resources devised to help children bereaved in this particular way.”
Having identified this gap, the Child Bereavement Charity was well placed to take up the opportunity to work in collaboration with Diana Sands PhD, Director of the Bereaved by Suicide Service, Sydney to bring a new resource to the UK.
