"In May 2005 I went along to an open morning after I read an advert asking for volunteers for the charity in a local magazine. I was lucky to be in a position where I could give some time as I live locally, and I thought a few hours one morning a week would be ideal.
When I first started volunteering, I helped with admin and office work for both the Resources/Publications and Training Departments. It may have been sending out mail shots, making up the training packs or computer work - all these jobs are important to help the office function properly but they all take time.
Currently I help with the database registrations each day. I have also been busy helping populate the newly designed website which has proved both interesting and rewarding. I also 'Meet and Greet' parents who attend the baby loss group, and for the past three years I have worked for the Support and Information department who handle the incoming bereavement calls and emails.
With support from the Bereavement Services team I now moderate the bereavement forum on the CBC website on a daily basis. Some of the work I am given can be done from home, so I am able to help more than one morning and also, conveniently for me, I fit the time I give to the charity around my day and the job I do.
They are always welcoming and always happy to see me, and I am always happy to see them. I enjoy being down there and my understanding is that the volunteers play an important part in the work they do and anyone with any free time will be warmly received."
