There are a number of people you can speak to. These include:
- A helpline, such as CBC's Support & information Line on 01494 568900
- A professional such as your community midwife, health visitor or doctor
- A local minister, priest, hospital chaplain or religious leader
- A counsellor - these are people who are trained to listen to you and understand your needs. If your child died in hospital, there may be a counsellor at the hospital you could speak to. Your GP may also be able to put you in touch with a counsellor. To understand more about counselling and what it is you may find our information sheet What is counselling and how to find it useful.
- It can be helpful for parents to try at times to be with someone who will listen to their feelings for as long as they need. Only they can know how they are feeling. For fathers, it can be particularly hard as they may go back to work soon after their baby has died and people may tend only to ask them how their partner is feeling. Talking can help us understand our feelings more clearly and can help make them seem less overwhelming.
