The Child Bereavement Charity (CBC) was founded in September 1994 by Jenni Thomas OBE, who worked with the charity for its first 15 years. The work of the charity was launched and established with Julia Samuel as Founder Patron at the Royal College of Nursing, in the presence of Diana, Princess of Wales. 

The charity is honoured to have the patronage of HRH The Duke of Cambridge KG.
